Dental prosthesis
Project: The Display Case
Still unused, and just a little bit touched by time lies a set of dentures on the middle shelf of the cabinet. It is not a complete set, or, rather, the set is not meant to replace a set of teeth totally, but it just adds the lost teeth to the ones that are left.
Corin had them made to cover the gaps in her current, natural set, gaps that were provoked by malnutrition (candy!!) and hereditary causes: also Corin’s mother and grandmother were teethless at young age. Interestingly, the lower half of the set contains nearly twice as many teeth as the upper half, and nearly only molars. Off course, the set contains all four wisdom teeth, since these were the first that were removed from Corin’s mouth. More interestingly, the upper half contains one incisive tooth, matching the gaping cleft of her natural ivories, which still reminds her of the accident she had when she was fourteen, when she hit the post of the neighbour’s fence with her bike and landed rudely on the pavewalk.
The set still lies waiting for use, because Corin tried the new therapy of growing new teeth by inserting cloned osteoblasts in the mandible.
